PRIME LAMBS

A lift in trade and consistent buyers’ appetite delivered another very solid prime lamb sale at Junction 36 today.
Trade once again lifted slightly on the week with consistent demand delivering a strong and well supported sale throughout. Lambs weighing late 30kg and early 40kg were once again the best article to sell and met keenest competition. Well finished lambs were well rewarded with plainer sorts also meeting a sound and reliable trade, resulting in an overall market average of 317p/kg and an SQQ of 321p/kg. Texel lambs sold to £188 from RHM&S Boyren for their usual run of quality.
Beltex lambs topped the pence per kilo with LE&A Ridding hitting 377.8p/kg for a pen of seven. The same good home had a pair of 48kg to 372.9p/kg. 43kg Texels sold 360.5p/kg from J Twigge, while lighter 37kg lambs sold for 359.5p/kg for a pen of four adding up well. 53kg Texels from A Clark & Johnson achieved 318.9p/kg.
